There is no solution to the political crisis, was EU Ambassador Aivo Orav’s response today while in Strumica, when the media asked him what is currently happening with the situation in the country.
“We have recognized that most political parties will not participate in elections. Problems remain with the electoral roll, freedom of the media and then there is the very serious problem of Ivanov’s decision to grant pardons. The whole point of the Przhino Agreement was to organize credible elections and to end this crisis. Unfortunately, at the moment we do not see an outcome and the question is how can these elections be considered as credible or reliable. What would happen next? I believe that the job description of every politician in the world, is to find a way out of difficult situations such as this and I think the leaders of the country need to act swiftly and they need to be very constructive”, said Ambassador Orav.
British Ambassador Charles Garrett, also shares this assessment of the current situation.
“An agreement needs to be found urgently, Macedonia must find a way out of this deadlock. I think a solution must be found concerning the pardons, because the most important thing for ones country, is the rule of law, where all citizens are equal in the eyes of the law”, said Ambassador Garrett.
The Ambassador of the Netherlands in Macedonia, Willem Wouter Plomp said that political leaders must make every effort to restore the country’s Euro-Atlantic path.
“The parties should find a way to annul the decision to pardon, which realistically is outside the principle of the rule of law. Also, we noticed that only one of the parties who are signatories to the Przhino Agreement will participate in the elections, this hardly can be seen as inclusive”, said the Dutch Ambassador, adding that the current situation will hardly lead to credible elections.
