Albanian parties are asking for MRTV to change its name to “Radio and Television of Macedonia”

-

The Albanian side in the negotiations for the media reforms, submitted amendments that should be added to the draft law for the media, to mediator Peter Vanhoutte, reported “Alsat-M“.

According to them, amendments to the Albanian side are concerned with issues that concern the interests of Albanians, i.e. the media in television and radio channels of the “Macedonian Radio Television”.

Apparently, the proposal submitted by the Albanian parties was received with support from mediator Peter Vanhoutte.

“At the UNESCO Convention on Cultural Diversity which is very interesting work, which should be conducted here. This document explains which community should take into account the ethnic diversity of the country and should take into account the needs of these communities, not only for Albanians, but for other communities as well. I believe that have the right to openly discuss this issue and should continue, to realize such a goal”, said Mr Vanhoutte, according to “Alsat-M”.

As for the proposed amendments, the Albanian parties envisage that the first channel of MRTV remain in the Macedonian language, and the second channel to broadcast for 24 hours in the Albanian language. For other communities, space should be provided for them, on the third channel which is Parliamentary or to provide a brand new TV channel.

Their proposal also envisages a change to the name of the public service of “Macedonian Radio Television” to “Radio and Television of Macedonia”, as the first name favours the idea that the public service belongs to the Macedonian population, even though it operates with money from all citizens in the country.
