The leader of the Democratic Union for Integration today, at the EU headquarters in Skopje, met with Commissioner of neighborhood policy and negotiations for EU enlargement, Johannes Hahn.
As reported in the statement of DUI, the focus of the meeting was political developments in Macedonia, massive wiretapping scandal, the resolution of the name dispute and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Ahmeti welcomed the idea of Hahn to involve the authorities in Brussels to overcome the difficult situation in the country.
– Political dialogue must be restored and intensified. DUI supports this process and calls on the parties to resolve this issue in a transparent manner and with attention to the common good of the country – said Ahmeti.
Ahmeti welcomed the readiness of the Hahn to talk to Matthew Nimitz in order to find a way to resolve the name dispute.
– The focus of the Euro-Atlantic agenda must not be delayed and, along with the international community, all efforts should be focused on solving the name dispute, NATO membership and starting negotiations for EU membership – said Ahmeti.
