“It is necessary Brussels to delegate a political team reinforced by legal and investigative experts because the situation in the country is alarming and democratic capacity of the system is placed in front of a serious challenge. It would assure all concerned parties that the process will be credible and with integrity, as well as impartial, which is a prerequisite for successful closure of this case,” wrote DUI leader Ali Ahmeti to EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn.
In his letter to the Commissioner, he says that is needed to address the biggest problem of our country, the name dispute, which holds hostage the aspirations of our citizens with the opportunity to exacerbate inter-ethnic relations, as soon as possible.
“This dispute must be closed as soon as possible, but the solution cannot be achieved without the intensive involvement of Brussels and Washington in mediation between Skopje and Athens. Our joint efforts to achieve peace and to build a sustainable democracy in the country cannot be considered complete without the integration of Macedonia in NATO and the start of negotiations for membership in the European Union,” reads Ahmeti’s letter to Commissioner Hahn.
