The Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services (AAVMU) condemns the adopted amendments to the Electoral Codex, which were adopted yesterday in Parliament, in a shortened procedure. They claim some of the solutions are scandalous.
Their first objection is about the change regarding paid political advertising, which till now it used to be paid by the parties and candidates from their own pockets, but now the payment will come from the state budget, i.e, from the Ministry of Finance, meaning from the tax payers, public money.
The media regulator also says that the newly introduced additional limits for paid advertising will not provide fair conditions for everyone, because it favors large parties, and completely neglects independent candidates.
The agency’s reaction is due to the erasing of the obligation to monitor online media during a political campaign, instead, it will be transferred to the State Election Commission (SEC)
