A truck full of migrants was discovered on the old high way from Skopje – Kumanovo

A truck full of migrants, including women and children, was found yesterday on the old high way from Skopje – Kumanovo, reported the television “TV 21“.

In the abandoned truck, according to “Telma”, which came by this information from the police, 34 migrants were discovered, of which 16 were Iraqi nationals. Because they are not considered economic migrants they can continue their journey towards the European countries. They were issued certificates for 72-hour legal stay in the country and were transferred to a camp in Tabanovce.

Some of the other migrants were transferred to another reception centre for foreigners in Gazi Baba as 15 of the migrants originated from Iran and immediately sought asylum in the country.

The Ministry of Interior announced today that the truck was a “Mercedes” where the migrants were found had false registration plates from Veles. According to a police inquiry into the matter, the previous owner of the truck, was a 33-year-old man from Stip, who sold his vehicle on January 4 of this year, to a 24-year-old man from Veles with the initials G.I. On the same date the registration from the trucks plates were registered.

According to the MOI, in the truck were 33 migrants, of which 16 were Iraqi nationals, 15 from Iran and 2 from Libya.

The case has been given to the Public Prosecutor on duty. Police are still searching for the driver, who left the truck and fled the scene.
