7,882 citizens sign a petition against the construction of the Ferris Wheel

7,882 citizens have signed a petition against the construction of the Ferris Wheel in Skopje, and it was submitted to the Mayor of Skopje, Koce Trajanovski.

The petition, which requires the construction of the Ferris wheel to stop, today appeared on social networks, and as you can see from the document, it has been filed and archived by the services of the City of Skopje on February 10th, this year.

“On behalf of the 7,882 signatories of this petition, which was conducted electronically in the period from 23/12/2016 to 03/01/2017, I present to you our protest against the decision of the construction of the Ferris Wheel in Skopje and I ask, on behalf of all concerned citizens to stop the construction of this financial, pointless and dangerous project, both for the city and the residents”, reads the document signed by Gorazd Smilevski who submitted the petition to the City of Skopje.

The initiative to collect signatures Smilevski said on his Facebook profile, Aneta Georgievska – Shajn.

The Ferris wheel is meant to be placed in the space between the “Telekom” building and the new bridge over the Vardar river which is meant to be built between Stone Bridge and Goce Delchev bridge.

The wheel in being built by Skopje firm “Beton”, whose offer was the only competition held by the Public Transport Enterprise Skopje, who are in charge of the project, amounting to 18.2 million euros.

JSP says the money for this project, will be provided from its own budget and with donations from the Government, and the construction will be financed over a several budget years, until 2018.

The wheel should be ready by 2019.
