61 percents in favour of finding a solution over name dispute

The majority of citizens in Macedonia, i.e. 61% of them, support a solution regarding the name dispute, in order to speed up the country’s entry into the European Union and NATO, while 33% are categorically against, shows the latest survey by the Institute for Democracy “Societas Civilis”.

The survey was conducted by the agency “M-prospect” from 19th to 26th January, by telephone with 1,000 respondents. The possibility of a statistical error is about three percents. The results are divided in general, results according to nationality, i.e. Macedonians and Albanians, and according to political orientation, i.e. voters from VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM.

Regarding the ethnic Macedonians, 50% of them are in favor for a solution of the name, and 42% are categorically against it. With ethnic Albanians, support for a name solution is given by 82% of the respondents, and only 1% are against it.

Those who declared voting for VMRO-DPMNE, 33% supported a solution, and 60% were categorically against, while those who voted for SDSM were “in favor” in some form 76% and 18% against.
