At the moment, all across Greece, 20,000 – 25,000 refugees have been stranded in the country. The figure is expected to rise which was released by the Minister for Migration Yiannis Muzalas in an interview with the Greek television “Mega” where he stated that he expected the numbers to rise, as every day thousands of refugees arrive every day in Greece.

According to the information from the Greek Police, at the refugee camp in Idomeni, there are approximately 6,500 refugees, and at the petrol station in Polykasto more than 400 people are waiting to be transferred to a refugee camp. Yesterday, the Greek media reported, that only 300 refugees from Syria and Iraq were allowed entry into Macedonia.

Refugees are organised virtually by any space there is around the country where ia free place can be found for them to be sheltered.

Despite migrants being put in reception centrers, housed in gyms, at the abandoned airport in Athens, in the waiting rooms at the Port of Piraeus. It is estimated that currently at Port Piraeus there are 3,000 refugees waiting to leave for Idomeni. Also in down-town Eliniko in the South of Athens there are 2,000 refugees, and at the Eleonas centre – 1,200, and at the relocation centre at the exit of Athens – 1,200 refugees, and at the centre for relocation in Thessaloniki – 2,000 refugees.

Greece is preparing to announce a State of Emergency if the situation continues, the slow flow of migrants moving towards Macedonia is nothing compared to how many refugees arrive on a daily basis on the islands, such as Lesbos, Chios and Mytilene.
