Twelve dead in an attack on satirical weekly newspaper in France

-

Twelve people – ten journalists and two policemen – were killed in an attack on the editorial office of the French satirical weekly “Charlie Hebdo” this morning in Paris.

Three heavily armed masked men broke into the editorial office of the newspaper and began shooting, according to witnesses.

“Charlie Hebdo” is a known satirical newspaper which was often the target of criticism and controversy.

The editorial office was previously attacked, but only material damage was caused, after which journalists were forced to work in the headquarters of the newspaper “Liberation”. These were new editorial premises.

President Francois Hollande strongly condemned the attack as “an act of extreme savagery”.

Reactions arrived from around the world.

The identity of the killers is not known. The investigation is ongoing.
