Zaev: We will not give into pressure, an amnesty is impossible

-

We are very close to the realization of the Republic of Macedonia’s strategic goals – EU and NATO membership, and we will not allow the process to be disrupted or put at risk with irresponsible ultimatums. We remain committed to the end to reach solutions that will enable conditions for a fair referendum in the interest of the citizens of our country, said Prime Minister Zoran Zaev at today’s meeting with the Minister of State for Europe, Michael Roth.

“The law is the same for everybody, an amnesty for political crime is impossible and we will not give in to pressure to stray from the rule of law,” Zaev said.

He emphasized that the Republic of Macedonia with a date for negotiations with the EU and the invitation from NATO a new chapter has begun in its history and at the same time opened a new significant chapter in the history of Europe, in a period when the unity of all European countries is of great importance to the EU, reports the government’s press service.

The Minister of State responsible for Europe, Michael Roth stressed that the Republic of Macedonia could continue to count on full and strong support from the Federal Republic of Germany. He emphasized that the upcoming referendum is the moment for Macedonia to decide on its European future and that responsibility should now be taken by all relevant political entities in the country, including the opposition.
