The cabinet of the leader of SDSM, Zoran Zaev and the cabinet of the President of the country, Gjorge Ivanov, have been in constant contact regarding the written guarantee of the unitarity of the state, which Ivanov is asking of from the new parliamentary majority. This was announced today by the leader of SDSM after leaving the Public Prosecution where he gave his testimony concerning the violence which broke out in the Parliament building on April the 27th.
“We are in constant contact with President’s cabinet regarding the written guarantee for the unitarity of the state which needs to be handed over. Once that is finished, I expect the President to hand over the mandate to form a government”, said Zaev, however he did not say specifically when he will be handing over the written guarantee to Ivanov.
In connection with the local elections and the necessary amendments which need to be made to unblock the work of the municipalities, which will be left without Mayors or municipal councilors because, under the current law, on May the 15th, their mandates expire. Zaev says it is necessary that the parliamentary groups come to a mutual agreement regarding the text of the amendments which need to be made to the Electoral Code, and need to be passed by the Legislative Committee and the Commission for political systems.
Zaev said that possible dates for the local elections could be in October or March, next year.
