Zaev- Pence: Strong support for the historical agreement with Greece and the referendum

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev has met in Washington with the Vice President of the US, Michael Pence.

Zaev, accompanied by the Vice Prime Minister for European Affairs, Bujar Osmani and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov, during the meeting with Pence and the members of his delegation, talked about the current political issues that are of interest of both countries.

“The Vice President, Mike Pence congratulated Prime Minister Zoran Zaev for the historical Prespa Agreement for solving the longstanding issue with the name between both countries and thank him for his leadership in securing the Agreement. Vice President expressed a strong support for the Prespa Agreement, which, when implemented, will contribute to a greater security and prosperity for the whole region. The Vice President and the Prime Minister discussed the next steps in the Agreement’s implementation, including the forthcoming referendum on the 30th of September and the importance of all citizens to cast their vote in this critical moment for the future of the country. The Vice President has expressed a strong support for the country’s NATO and EU accession” -states the press release issued by Pence’s cabinet.

At the meeting with Vice President Pence, Prime Minister Zaev stressed that our citizens know that the Euro-Atlantic future, apart from the consolidation of the political reforms will bring economic growth, that we want to share and accomplish with our neighbors.

During the meeting, Vice President Pence also conveyed messages from the President of the US, Trump, as support from Washington for the shown courage and leadership in the implementation of the necessary reforms in the country and the accomplished agreement with Greece, that have paved the way for a membership into NATO and EU.

Zaev and Pence have also talked about the possibility of joint celebration when our country will be accepted into NATO next year, which has become a reality with the agreement with Greece.
