Yesterday Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said in an interview with TV Kanal 5 that there was a possibility for the parliamentary majority to seek an impeachment for President Gjorge Ivanov, if he did not sign the agreement with Greece after the citizens’s votes in favor of a referendum. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia, two-thirds majority is required in Parliament and the Constitutional Court for the possible re-initiation of this procedure.
“Citizens are the ones who will decide whether they want a change of name, but if the agreement is accepted in the referendum, no one has the right to obstruct their opinion”, Zaev said.
A procedure for establishing the responsibility of the President of the Republic shall be initiated by the Parliament by a two-thirds majority vote of the total number of MPs. The Constitutional Court decides regarding the president’s responsibility by a two-thirds majority of the total number of judges.
