Prime Minister Zoran Zaev took part in the Summit of Heads of Government from member states of the Central European Initiative in Zagreb.
He assessed the event as a good opportunity for Macedonia to reiterate its expectations of support from friendly countries, for membership of our country in NATO and the start of negotiations with the EU.
“We have requested the support of member states for the processes in the EU and NATO. Macedonia stands out in a positive light in building friendship, good neighbourly relations, reforms and expectations that through Macedonia enlargement will continue, Zaev said.
Responding to a journalist’s question as to whether he had a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who attended a dinner organized by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic with the present heads of delegations at the Summit, Zaev said that no such thing had taken place.
“At the next opportunity, we will express our expectation for a response to our request for Nikola Gruevski to be extradited because according to international conventions and laws he must serve his sentence in Macedonia,” Zaev said.
When asked by regional media regarding the expectation of Macedonia’s membership in NATO, the prime minister stated that “Macedonia shines in the Balkans”, that reforms and the Prespa Agreement open the way and that Macedonia will be the next and 30th NATO member state.
