Parliament Speaker, Talat Xhaferi, during a briefing with the press stressed that the political parties have to find a joint solution and come to an agreement for a new date for organizing the local elections before he can schedule a session to make amendments to the Election Code.
According to Xhaferi, if there is a political census, the whole procedure can be finished in a single day.
“The date of the election should be agreed upon between the political parties and to be aware of the deadlines starting from the moment they are called for and until the election day, there has to be a period of 70 days”, said Xhaferi. According to the newly elected Parliament Speaker, a Committee of Inquiry needs to be formed to clarify incidents which occurred on the 27th of April, however, he noted that it was not his responsibility, but it is the responsibility of the political parties.
“The deadline for Ivanov will expire on May the 19th and I cannot do anything until that deadline comes to an end. I cannot beg Ivanov but I will wait for the legally determined deadlines to expire. However, formally and legally there is no obstacle for a government to be elected without the mandate”, said Xhaferi.
