Video-message from Koenders: Macedonia faces historic crossroads, go to the polls and decide your country’s future

-

To get closer to Europe, Macedonian voters need to stand for the rule of law, free media and against corruption, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Bert Koenders in a video message.

He called on Macedonian voters to go to the polls on December 11, and to decide on the country’s future.

“I’m Bert Koenders, the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Netherlands has always been a close friend of Macedonian democracy, and in a week’s time, Macedonia faces historic crossroads. As Foreign Minister of the Netherlands, it is not my place to take sides for which political options, but it is my duty to advocate for European values. If the Macedonian voters want to get closer to Europe, they will have to stand for accountability and for the rule of law. One has to stand against corruption, and for free media, independent judiciary and democracy. It is up to you, as our friends, citizens and voters from Macedonia to demand the freedom of reforms that are necessary for moving your country closer to Europe, and towards stability and stronger democracy. Go to the polls on December the 11th, and decide on the country’s future”, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Bert Koenders in his statement.
