Russian MFA: EU, NATO and US shamelessly continue to put pressure on Ivanov

Moscow, 3 March, 2017 - 18:01 (META)

Outside interference in the internal affairs of Republic of Macedonia is taking extreme forms, said today’s statement of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which accuses the European Union and NATO of putting unprecedented pressure on the president of Macedonia.

“The EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, NATO’s General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg and other representatives of the so-called “enlightened Europe” keep shamelessly exerting unprecedented pressure over the Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov by demanding he give the Prime Minister’s mandate to the opposition who have accepted the “Albanian platform” ultimatum”, said the Russian MFA.

They stressed that it is important to “understand that the measures formulated in Tirana denote federalization of Macedonia, allocation of power and state symbols and lead to undermining the constitution with an aim to disintegrate the state.”

The European representatives were joined by the president of the “unilaterally declared state of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, who undoubtedly called upon the Macedonian Albanians “to take matters into their own hands” which leads to the creation of Great Albania that has pretensions towards parts of several countries in the Balkans including Macedonia.”

“This is another indication that the Kosovo artificial quasi-state formation is one of the main sources of instability, the main carrier of the potential for conflict in the Balkans. Macedonians themselves must decide their fate outside without interference”, said the statement from the Russian MFA.

With the worsening of the situation in Macedonia and the protests regarding the mandate for the new government, official reactions from Moscow are becoming more frequent.
