The decision to solve the problem that the Republic of Greece has with our name is not and can not be exclusive property only to a certain group of politicians, nor the ruling majority in Parliament, reacted VMRO-DPMNE to Parliament Speaker, Talat Xhaferi’s statement for “Alsat- M” when he said if the parliamentary majority has the will, Parliament has legitimacy in the name of the citizens to decide on the name dispute.
“VMRO DPMNE condemns the statements made by Mr. Talat Xhaferi and will oppose the intentions of the majority of MPs to elect any name change themselves without first declaring a referendum for the citizens and with the majority of them agreeing on the offered solution. VMRO-DPMNE will not accept a change of the Constitution, in order to change the constitutional name of the Republic of Macedonia”, read the statement.
The party says they will not accept ideas and suggestions that would threaten the Macedonian people and Macedonia’s national identity, the distinctiveness of the Macedonian nation and the Macedonian language and culture.
