The Law on languages will be returned today at the Parliament

-

At today’s 32nd session at the Parliament, the first item on the agenda is the Law on the use of languages. It is returned again to the MPs after it was vetoed previously by President Gjorge Ivanov and he issued several remarks about it. This will be the third reading of the Law.

The Law wears a European flag and has a priority tag, and in order for it to be adopted only a simple majority will be needed.

If the Parliament adopts the law with a majority of votes out of the total number of MPs, the President of the Republic is obliged to sign the decree.

VMRO-DPMNE has filed a record number of 32.000 amendments. The previous record was held by DUI with around 15.000 amendments that were filed for the Law on the defenders in 2012.

Part of the Macedonian academic public has expressed discontent regarding the content and the articles of the law, and the civil associations protested this past Saturday at the Parliament and announced that in the forthcoming days they shall be expressing their discontent by this “unconstitutional law.”
