The railroad traffic is overburdened and the train capacities are completely full, as was alarmed by the Macedonian companies that are seeking for alternative transportation because of the blockade of the border crossing Evzoni by Greek farmers for the third week.
The manager of Macedonian railroads “Transport” Nikola Kostov, for Meta said that there won’t be any delays of the railroad traffic and the regular obligations will be performed on time, but the request for railroad services has increased by several times.
-The need of railroad traffic through Thessaloniki has increased both because of the fact that the Danube is frozen, and therefore the transportation of goods is directed through the port in Thessaloniki, and additionally because of the strike of the Greek farmers – said Kostov.
He also said that the manager of the Greek railroads has asked for a greater passage of trains and to prolong the working hours.
-There are three to four trains going in or out per day, and we are requesting that this number should be at least 10. Also, we have asked them to work 24 hours, because their working hours is from 7 – 18h – said Kostov
