The government will set up an inter-ministerial working group that will need to prepare a solution to reform the system for the interception of communications, based on the recommendations by the Reinhard Priebe expert group, which will provide protection of citizens’ rights and protection against abuse of wiretapping.
The need for forming this working group was adopted at yesterday’s Government session, and by the proposal from the Ministry of Interior.
“On the proposal by the Ministry of Interior, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia reviewed and adopted the information for the need to establish an inter-ministerial working group for the preparation and monitoring of the implementation of the plan, for the realization of the recommendations of the group of senior experts on systemic issues of governance and the law, regarding the monitoring of communications”, says the Government.
According to Government spokesman Mile Bosnjakovski, the ultimate goal is to publicly and transparently choose a model that will be most suitable to protect all citizens and not to allow a repeat of abuse of the system for monitoring communications.
