The Court orders 30 days detention for Goran Grujovski, first suspect in “Fortress” case

The Criminal Court has bowed to the request of the Special Public Prosecution (SPP) and ordered that Goran Grujovski be detained for a period of 30 days. He is the first suspect in the case known as “Fortress”. It has been officially confirmed by the Basic Court Skopje 1, that a chief of the Fifth Department otherwise known as the Security and Counter Intelligence Agency (UBK) has been detained.

“The judge overseeing the preliminary proceedings in the Basic Court Skopje 1, is acting on a request by the prosecution to go ahead with the prosecution of the suspect G.G. in relation to crimes arising from the illegal interception of communications, has granted the prosecution’s demands and ordered the detention of the suspect for a period of 30 days. G.G. who appeared before the court with his defense attorney, was taken into custody for a 30 days as a pre-trial measure” a court statement said.

The Court also added that all parties have the right of appeal to any decision made by the court within a 24 hour period.

Grujovski was led away in handcuffs to a police vehicle following the late evening hearing, after he had faced a rigorous 8 hours of questioning by the court.
