The city of Skopje has exceeded the annually allowed EU limits for air pollution in February

-

Including this year, the city of Skopje has exceeded the EU’s determined annually allowed limits for air pollution which is an indicator that the ecological and the health Golgotha of the people of Skopje continues in 2018, informs the Skopje Smog Alarm group.

As the ecologists explain, the allowed limit for concentrations of PM10 particles for a period of 24 hours is 50 micrograms per cubic meter. In EU, the allowed number of exceeding the limits of PM10 particles is 35 days in one calendar year.

“On the 21st of February 2018, the EU limits are surpassed at all measuring stations in Skopje including Miladinoci, the municipality of Ilinden” informs Skopje Smog Alarm.

Regarding the 35 times registered overstepping the level of pollution in line with the EU’s standards, the Centar has registered 40 cases of overstepping, Karposh 42, Lisiche 47, Gazi Baba 45 and the UKIM’s Rectorate has registered 54 cases.

“We appeal to the local and central authorities to take urgent and sustainable measures for improvement of the air quality in Skopje and throughout Macedonia. The air in Skopje must not be used as a sewerage for the heavy industry and the construction industry. The measures such as free public transportation are too small and inadequate for one of the most polluted cities in the world” said Skopje Smog Alarm.
