According to “Meta” sources, in several Skopje municipalities, there is a noticeable absence of pupils.
Whether this absence of students is due to the recent earthquakes is justified or not, it will depend on the opinion of individual teachers as the Ministry of Education has no official position on the absence of students as a result of the earthquakes.
Despite, several attempts by “Meta” to get an answer from the Ministry of Education on the question of absence of students, at this time, we still have not received an answer.
According to a “Meta”source from a primary school in the municipality of Karpos, students who are absent will be asked for an excuse, where they will have to justify their absence, because a state of emergency has not been declared. However, again, everything will depend on the individual decision of the class form teacher.
The Director of the school “11 October”, Vasko Lazarevski said the absence of students due to the series of earthquakes will be an acceptable reason for their absence.
“The absences will be justified because it is a natural phenomenon that can not be predicted. We can’t call their absences unexcused if they feel that their security is threatened”, said Lazarevski.
The official position of the Ministry of Education is that schools will not be closed, and further actions will depend on the guidelines and instructions of the Steering Committee on Crisis Management, as the central body for dealing with crises.
