“At yesterdays protest in Skopje, some of the protesters used explosive devices and violently pushed the protective fence, while forcefully trying to  enter Parliament. In order to prevent the situation escalating and a violent incursion of the Parliament building, and acting in accordance with rules and regulation, the police used tear gas”, said the Interior Ministry.

The Interior Ministry emphasized that while it respects the right to peaceful protest, it will not allow the use of force and violent attack, as well as disturbance of public order and peace, and appeals for a democratic way of expressing public opinion.

The protests were organized via social media networks after an agreement was signed by Macedonia and Greece yesterday to resolve the 27-year-old name dispute. The name of Macedonia will be Northern Macedonia (erga omnes).

Mickoski: Zaev’s deal is capitulation, VMRO-DPMNE will not support it

Skopje, 13 June, 2018 - 12:17 (META)

If Zoran Zaev’s so-called agreement is to accept a change in the constitution, and the internal and external use of the new name, then it is Zoran Zaev’s contract of capitulation, said Hristijan Mickoski, VMRO-DPMNE’s leader tonight at a press conference immediately following th the prime minister announcement of the agreement reached on the name.

“Zoran Zaev showed indecisiveness, a lack of dignity, and displayed a continuous changing of his own personal views, undignified for prime minister of the state. The views of VMRO-DPMNE are known, unchanged and precise. VMRO-DPMNE will not depart from its principles and beliefs and will not support the change of the constitution”, said Mickoski stressing that “if Zoran Zaev attempted to smuggle the capitulation through a parliamentary procedure, he must know that a referendum must take place, and it must be compulsory, and not consultative, owing to his poor attempt at smuggling at today’s press conference to the Macedonian public”.

According to him, the damage now being done is huge and the state is being pushed into an irreversible abyss.

“We are in favor of EU and NATO membership, much moreso than all others, but progress and integration there must be appreciated by the merit system i.e. after the work is done, and not by treachery and capitulation, as Zoran Zaev today tried to when he made his announcement to the Macedonian public. With such agreements as today, Macedonia is losing”, said Mickoski and stressed that he will vote “against” the announced referendum.

Zaev: No longer FYROM, the name Republic of Northern Macedonia has been agreed on

Skopje, 13 June, 2018 - 11:29 (META)

“The Republic of Northern Macedonia” has been translated into all languages, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev confirmed at a press conference this afternoon as a solution to the dispute with Greece.

According to Zaev, Macedonian language, Macedonia is protected and strengthened “once and for all”.

“A name that is dignified, the Republic of Northern Macedonia, translated in all languages for overall use, is specified with an amendment to the Constitution, confirmation of the Macedonian language, Macedonian without a footnote, the nationality is Macedonian / citizens of Northern Macedonia”, Zaev said.He called for national unity and announced that the agreement will go to a referendum in the fall and then ratification in parliament.

“We have come to a historic centuries-old solution, and by resolving the dispute, we are building a friendship with Greece, which has never been greater. In our hands is the key to opening the European perspective. We are resolving two and a half decades of dispute which was pulling our country down. With the solution we strengthen the Macedonian identity. There is no FYROM anymore. We are recognized from the Republic of Greece. Our profit is priceless, a guarantee of security and a strengthened identity. The Republic of Northern Macedonia is envisaged to be for overall use, “Zaev said at press conference.

First, the agreement will be presented to all, and then signed by the representatives of the two governments.

“Following are letters from the Greek government to the EU and NATO that there is no name dispute and that there are no obstacles to NATO membership and a recommendation to start accession negotiations. We believe that in June we will start negotiations with the EU, and in July we will receive an invitation for full membership.

In the autumn, a referendum follows, on which citizens decide on the future. Citizens will be part of the future, let’s say yes to the Macedonian future.

After the referendum, Greece will ratify the agreement and protocol for NATO membership by the end of the year, “the prime minister said.

Parvanov: The name Upper or Northern Macedonia favors Greece, but at the expense of Bulgaria

Sofia, 12 February, 2018 - 15:06 (META)

Negotiations for resolving the name dispute between Macedonia and Greece should not be at the expense of Bulgaria, stated former Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov today on BTV “This Morning” program.

According to Parvanov, the fact that the name-dispute between Greece and Macedonia has been under discussion is positive, but he went further and said that he is worried because “talks are beginning to go in the direction of several solutions, some of which are contrary to the Bulgarian interest”.

“Yes, above all, we recognize Macedonia as the constitutional name, but consider proposals such as Upper Macedonia or Northern Macedonia, are solutions that are in favor of Greece, but at the expense of Bulgarian interest”, Parvanov said.

The former Bulgarian President (2002 to 2012) thinks that it is not up to Sofia and its diplomacy how the negotiations will end, and further says, that at some point, it should be in some sort of alignment with Bulgaria.

“The name Northern or Upper Macedonia includes the region of Pirin, the Aegean region does not concern us and we do not comment on it, and at the same time the potential claims towards Bulgaria are up in the ait. At least, it must be discussed between the governments of both countries”, Parvanov said.

According to him, the unblocking of negotiations between Athens and Skopje is due to pressure from the West, most likely across the ocean, alluding to the United States.
