“The reform in the Administration for Security and Counterintelligence (UBK) that will guarantee that the Administration will regain its reputation of a professional and renowned service is in its initial phase. The basic aims of this reform are “professionalization, de-partisation, and transparency” said the Minister of Interior, Oliver Spasovski, during his presentation of his 100 days in office.
Regarding UBK’s work, the Minister stated that he will strengthen the parliamentary overview over the monitoring of communications and that they are going to pass new mechanisms for a civil and expert control.
-The political crisis in Macedonia started with the revealing of the scandal with the tape wiring.The massive misuse of the systems for monitoring of communications have caused a crisis that seriously disrupted the reputation of the security services, but it also revealed the controlled managing from one center of power. In the past period, a reform of the system for monitoring of communications was started, that will, mainly, guarantee an independent and expert control, that will be implemented through the strengthening of the capacities for a parliamentary monitoring, but also an implementation of new mechanisms of civil and expert control – said Spasovski.
