Russian Patriarch Cyril and Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte will discuss the status of the MOC

-

The status of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric will be the topic of the meeting between Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte and the Russian Patriarch Cyril, who is paying a visit to Sofia today and tomorrow to mark the 140th anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule.

This was confirmed by Bulgarian Metropolitan Anthony in a statement on Bulgarian National Television. He pointed out that the status of the MOC-OA is a current issue in the Orthodox world and needs to be discussed.

“The Holy Synod of the BOC has always tried to help Macedonian Christians to have a canonically recognized Orthodox Church”, says Metropolitan Anthony of Western Europe and Central Europe.

She pointed out that the BOC in its history went through a “schismatic path”, similar to the Macedonian one, when it was separated from the Greek Church.

“The BOC wants to resolve the status of the Macedonian Church and can not stay away from this issue, but at the same time it does not want to break from the canons”, said Metropolitan Anthony.

Patriarch Cyril, during his stay in Sofia, with the Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte, will also meet with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
