MPs passed the Law on Janeva’s Public Prosecutor Office

-

With 75 votes “for” MPs of Parliament this afternoon adopted the Law on Amending and Supplementing the Law on the Public Prosecution service, which the Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva had requested.

The amendments were discussed in an urgent procedure. Two hours were spent two hours in the plenary dispute, and after that a second reading in Parliament.

With these amendments to the existing regulations in Article 4, a new chapter has been added on the Public Prosecutions Office for crimes related to the contents of the unauthorized interception of communications.

The new provisions will provide the Special Public Prosecutor to have jurisdiction and to decide on the persons who will be employed with them and the arrangements. Under the new changes, employment in this office will not use the same methodology the public sector uses regarding employment.

Janeva, with this Act will determine the description and number of prosecuting officers. The prosecutor will decide on all matters relating to the employment of the Public Prosecution officials and employees in this public prosecutor who perform technical duties and assistance.

The amendments to the Government Laws will be submitted by a shortened procedure proposed by the Ministry of Justice, at the request of the Special Public Prosecutor.

MPs today voted the proposal of the Government to increase the salaries of Judges and Prosecutors by 35 percent.
