Miloshoski: The agreement with Bulgaria has weaknesses, five points need to be improved

-

Instead of rushing and hastily chasing a date to sign the Macedonian-Bulgarian Agreement, the Government should be working towards a better quality of the text for achieving an agreement, which means mutual respect for the two peoples and mutual recognition of the two countries, as well as the two cultures and mutual cooperation for the perspective of Macedonia and Bulgaria as neighbors.

This was stated today by MP Antonio Miloshoski from VMRO-DPMNE, after the Committee for Foreign Policy session ended, which was closed to the public at the request of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.

He noted that they have five remarks and recommendations which are whether the Macedonian people as the constitutive people of the Republic of Macedonia will be or will not be mentioned in the agreement for good neighborly relations. Also, whether the Macedonian language will be mentioned in the agreement and that it only exists because of the existence of the Constitution of Macedonia or will they phrase it that the Macedonian language has its own distinctness, independent of the Constitution.

According to Miloshoski, the third remark was whether Prime Minister Zaev was prepared to sign a bilateral agreement that obliges him to take care of Macedonians living abroad.

“The fourth remark referred to the phrase “common history” where MPs from the Coalition “For a Better Macedonia” considered it would be much better for a broader phrase, where parts of the common and partial special histories between Macedonia and Bulgaria and the Macedonian and Bulgarian people are mentioned. The fifth, last and essential remark we made was regarding this agreement concerned the noticeable asymmetry of the rights and obligations of both parties in the contract. There are more rights foreseen for the Republic of Bulgaria as a party to this agreement, and many more restrictions, limitations and obligations for the Republic of Macedonia as a party to this agreement”, said Miloshoski.
