Makraduli: Coal heating will be banned by 2020

-

Coal heating in Macedonia will be banned, stressed the Deputy Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Jani Makraduli, who participated at the World Climate Conference in Bonn.

He said that this measure is part of the Macedonian efforts to protect the environment and the fight against climate change, that are caused by enormous emissions of CO2 gasses into the atmosphere. This, in turn, has drastically increased the planet’s temperature.

“Two-thirds of pollution in Skopje is a result of using inappropriate materials to heat homes and that is why it is a priority for the government to solve this issue”, said Makraduli.

Some data indicates that up to 100 families in the territory of the municipality of Centar use coal and many of the homes are heated with low -quality wood and other hazardous material.

Makraduli said that pollution can be solved only with an integrated approach and by parallel activities in all areas including long-term measures that have to be put to practice immediately.
