Macedonian Police have arrested 28 journalists for illegally crossing the border

Mariana Karakoulaki, a journalist who has been covering the refugee crisis in Greece,  posted on her “Twitter” account that photographer Dimitris Tosidis and 30 other journalists and activists were arrested by the Macedonian security forces on the Macedonian-Greek border.

Another her tweet said, “URGENT: photographer Dimitris Tosidis was arrested by the Macedonian Army as they reported on the #RefuGR march, Help needed”, and “More than 30 journalists and activists have been arrested, but Dimitris Tosidis reports that all is in order. They have to pay a fine of 250 euros, ” she says on her “Twitter”account.

The Greek media have reported that about a dozen journalists and photographers have been arrested, among them is the photographer from the Greek news agency APE, Yannis Kolesidis.

Macedonian police have confirmed the arrest of 28 journalists and photographers, for illegally crossing the border with refugees. The Ministry of Interior says it has no information which newspapers, media outlets and countries the detained journalists and photographers were from.

“It is a misdemeanor offense, so when they are released and taken to the judge for criminal proceedings we will have more information”, said the MOI.
