Macedonia expels Russian diplomat, Russia calls the move hostile and unwarranted

-

The Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it has decided to expel a diplomat from the Russian Federation following the poisoning of x-spy Sergei Skripal in Salisbury, United Kingdom.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to announce that after close consultation with our EU and NATO allies and partners and in solidarity with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, decided to expel one diplomat of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Macedonia over the Skripal case, pursuant to Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961”, read the statement, further adding, “the use of military-grade chemical weapons is in violation of International Law and this affects the security of all countries.”.

The Russian embassy in the country responded to the move, saying “the responsibility for the consequences of the decision to expel a Russian diplomat from Macedonia, will be felt entirely on the Macedonian side.”

The Russian embassy believes that the expulsion is “an extremely hostile and unwarranted move, without precedent in Russian-Macedonian relations”.

Today, the US, Canada and 14 EU countries simultaneously decided to expel Russian diplomats from their countries following the poisoning of former spy, Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the United Kingdom.
