Macedonia and Bulgaria reached a basis for compromise on the agreement for good neighborly relations

Bulgaria and Macedonia reached a basis for a compromise on the agreement for good neighborly relations, the next phase will be consultations and internal procedures, stated the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after consultations were held with Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov and his Bulgarian counterpart Ekaterina Zaharieva this weekend in Sofia.

 “The delegations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the Republic of Macedonia, led by Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva and Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov, held two day consultations regarding the project on the Agreement for friendly relations, good neighborly relations and collaboration between both countries. The talks held in Bulgaria, went well and in a constructive atmosphere. They reached a basis for a compromise. The next step will be to work towards consultations, and to come to an internal agreement”, reads the statement from the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.

On June 20th, Zoran Zaev paid a visit to Sofia, where he met his counterpart Boyko Borisov. After the meeting, both stated that the agreement between the two countries is almost finished and there is a small part left to be agreed upon a ministerial level for foreign affairs and the agreement will possibly be signed on August 2nd.
