Let’s not judge each other regarding the issues of the past, said Meta after his meeting with Ivanov

-

Today, President Gjorge Ivanov and his Albanian counterpart, Ilir Meta, discussed bilateral relations between the two countries in Skopje, and the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, as well.

“We started together, but now Albania is a NATO member. We now expect Albania to take Macedonia into the Alliance”, Ivanov said at the joint press conference, adding that Macedonia is ready to share its previous experience with Albania regarding the European integration process.

Ivanov stressed that at the meeting it was discussed about the situation in the region, but also for bilateral co-operation, which, he said, it was still not on a satisfactory level.

Albanian President Meta, quoted Mother Theresa, and he called for greater co-operation, rather than living in the past.

“Sometimes neighborly relations are simple, but we know to complicate them. They are like relationships between people. As I earlier quoted Mother Theresa, ‘If we judge people indefinitely, there will be no time to love them’. This also applies to common relationships. Therefore, it is better to spend our time on mutual support and we all benefit from it, than to judge each other on issues that are related to the past. I believe that Macedonia and Albania could be an example for the entire region”, said Meta.

The Albanian president did not want to comment on the “Divo Naselje” and “Monster” cases, but he expects the human rights to be respected and European standards to be applied.
