Ivanov: We receive mixed messages of enlargement fatigue from some EU members

-

The future of our region is in the hands of the European Union. And yet, from some member states of the Union, we receive mixed messages of enlargement fatigue, said the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Gjorge Ivanov, at the opening of the meeting of the Directors of the Intelligence Agencies from the participating countries in the Brdo-Brijuni Process, which is being held today in Skopje.

“That fatigue, among other things, is also due to the perception of the Balkans as the periphery of Europe, as a region that is inherently unstable. The lack of trust between us is a perfect chance of influencing third parties on the economic prosperity of the states, the revival of ethno-nationalist projects and the prevention of integration into the EU and NATO. To change this perception, we must instead of being reactive, we must be proactive. The threats we face require creativity, partnership and unconventional thinking”, said Ivanov.

“Let’s build partnership relations, exchange reliable information, look out for each other, because if we do not do it ourselves, no one else will do it for us ,” added Ivanov.

The meeting is in the wake of the meeting of the leaders of the participating countries from the Brdo–Brijuni Process, which will take place on April 27 in Skopje.
