Instead of getting rid of these disastrous divisions, in the last 25 years, we allowed the gap to grow between us, and now this crisis has become part of our everyday lives, said President Gjorge Ivanov during the 65th anniversary of the National Archive of the Republic of Macedonia.
“The irresponsible behavior of the political opposition has harmed the country. The crisis seems to have become part of our everyday lives. We allowed foreigners to take care of us, more than we look after ourselves. We allowed others to modulate our political and legal system. We allowed personal and party interests to become more important than the state’s interest”, Ivanov said.
According to the Macedonian President, it is necessary to build confidence in the country and a sense of national interest, adding that the cost of the loss of confidence is too high.
“In this tense atmosphere, it is, as if we have forgotten what many people still do not have – their own state. Many people long for what we have, but we do not respect it and we take it for granted. It is difficult to obtain, but even harder to preserve the state. The millions of migrants heading to Europe should be a clear reminder of this truth. Therefore, it is necessary to build confidence and trust in our country, to build a sense of national interest, and above all, to keep Macedonia above everything”, said Ivanov.
He said that as a generation we have limited time to correct the impression that future generations will have of us, when they read the records we leave them in the archives.
“How will the future generations see us? What will our descendants think of our quarter century of independence? What will we leave written on the pages of Macedonian contemporary history? What drove us, fame, political ratings or the responsibility to the future generations?” Said President Ivanov in his speech.
