Ivanov – Radev: The name solution doesn’t have to be to the disadvantage of third party countries

-

The President of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, who is on an official visit to this country, said that for Sofia, the name that will come out from the negotiations between Macedonia and Greece is exceptionally important not to bear any geographical header that would include a part of a territory in Bulgaria.

-The solution for the name dispute will happen with direct and transparent negotiations that are taking place between Greece and Macedonia. But, certainly, these negotiations are of interest to us, the Bulgarian side. For us, it is important that the new name, that will result from these negotiations, not to contain a geographical header that would include a part of the territory of Bulgaria – said Radev at a joint-press conference with his host, the Macedonian President, Gjorge Ivanov.

The Macedonian president said that he has informed his Bulgarian counterpart about the negotiations that we have under the mediatorship of the United Nations “about the problem that a neighboring country has with our constitutional name.”

– We remain dedicated to finding a solution, but this solution mustn’t be to the disadvantage of third-party countries and to involve third-party countries in this bilateral problem that Greece has with our constitutional name – said Ivanov.

Otherwise, at today’s meeting between the two presidents, Ivanov announced that the subject was opened for an initiative for concluding an agreement for a strategic partnership between Macedonia and Bulgaria.
