Ivanov: Entire negotiation process with Greece resembles a personal arrangement between two prime ministers

-

Without adhering to legal provisions when reaching and concluding international agreements on legal provisions, the entire negotiation process with Greece resembles a personal arrangement between the two prime ministers, said President Gjorge Ivanov at today’s meeting with Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov.

At the meeting Dimitrov informed the head of state about recent developments regarding the talks on the name issue “without submitting any form of written document,” read the statement from the President’s Office.

Ivanov reiterated his position, that he does not accept the “erga omnes” solution, ie one new name for general use.

“The whole process resembles a personal arrangement between Prime Minister Zaev and Prime Minister Tsipras, for which a national consensus in the Republic of Macedonia has not been obtained. My position is that, I do not accept a solution to the name issue with one name for overall use, or erga omnes”, stated Ivanov.

He pointed out that a conclusion to an international agreement should be in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia, rather than foreseeing its amendment.
