Ivanov and Zaev agree that the NBRM cannot be left without a Governor

-

The National Bank must not be left without a Governor because it would have negative implications on the economy of the country, agreed President Gjorge Ivanov and Prime Minister Zoran Zaev at today’s meeting atthe Vodno cottage held at the request of the prime minister, where they discussed Ivanov’s proposal for a new governor of the NBRM.

Ivanov, just like the previous meeting held on March 26 this year, explained his views and arguments to Prime Minister Zaev’s and why he believes that the current Governor, Dimitar Bogov, most responsibly performs this important function.

At today’s meeting, President Ivanov revealed to Prime Minister Zaev that before coming to his decision, he also had meetings with other potential candidates for the position of Governor.

“At these meetings, no objections were made regarding the work of the current Governor, nor about the work of the NBRM. On the contrary, all parties agreed on the opinion that Bogov is the best solution, which was also confirmed in the reports of the European Commission”, reads Ivanov’s statement.

At the meeting they also discussed the legal regulations for appointing a new governor. It was stated that, in accordance with Article 49 of the Law on the National Bank, the Governor is appointed by Parliament, after a proposal by the President.

In accordance with his powers, President Ivanov on April 27, 2018 submitted his proposal to Parliament. Bogov’s mandate comes to an end on May 21st.
