International arrest warrant for Gruevski after the court confirms he is in Budapest

-

The Criminal Court is waiting to confirm information that convicted MP Nikola Gruevski is in Budapest, and then request to issue an international arrest warrant.

“In regards to the eventual issuing of an international arrest warrant, when the competent authorities determine that the defendant is not located in the country, or confirm the authenticity of the information that that person is located in Budapest, then, a judge will be informed for the enforcement of sanctions and the judge will immediately issue an order for an international arrest warrant,” the court said.

The court went on to say that Gruevski was deprived of personal and diplomatic passports which remain in court, and all certain measures against him were confirmed by the Court of Appeal.

Today, the president of the Criminal Court, Ivan Dzolev, said that the court can not determine the measure of detention on its own initiative, but that it is always at the request of the prosecution.

“From the very beginning of the “Tank” case, the Prosecution did not request a measure of detention for the accused Nikola Gruevski,” said Dzolev.

He pointed out that Nikola Gruevski’s two passports, both diplomatic and his personal passport – were seized by the court and the measure was announced in the “Titanic” case, while in the “Tank” case there was no proposal for securing any property nor a proposal for a measure to ensure his attendance.

If has been officially confirmed that former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski fled to Hungary, the Ministry of Justice will submit a request for extradition after receiving a notification from the Ministry of Interior where Gruevski is located and that an international arrest warrant has been issued for him.

Gruevski was sentenced to two years in prison in the “Tank” case for illegally procuring a luxury Mercedes, led by the Special Public Prosecutor’s Office.
