Gruevski: Macedonia remains dedicated to NATO and EU Membership

-

“The Republic of Macedonia still continues to be a constructive and key player in the stability of the region. Macedonia’s main goal still remains membership in NATO and the EU”, said the Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski at the General Assembly of the United Nations, which was held in New York.

“All the reforms taking place in Macedonia are in that spirit. Regardless of all the internal political developments, there should be no obstacle about our efforts. One question directly affects my country, and that is the difference between my country and Greece, and their opposition to our constitutional name, the Republic of Macedonia. Our position is well known and it is in the context of reality. We are Macedonians, we speak the Macedonian language and live in a country called the Republic of Macedonia. The decision of the International Court of Justice must be respected by all members of this organization, because that court is organized under the guidance of the UN. Otherwise, confidence in the United Nations will decline. It doesn’t give a good impression that the UN stand as an obstacle in our path to development. We need to find a solution as two friendly countries, besides this, we have no other problems. I would like to call upon the new government in Greece in the spirit of good neighbourly relations to resolve this issue as neighbors, respecting the Interim Accord of 1995, under the auspices of this organization”, said Mr Gruevski.
The Prime Minister said that the region has partially unresolved bilateral issues and in moments of major global trials.
