Gruevski: I finish my mandate with a knife in the back, and I hope the new leader remains a man

-

VMRO-DPMNE has drafted an amnesty law for the events of April 27th and I hope that it will be voted and adopted in Parliament, because national reconciliation and forgiveness is necessary, said outgoing VMRO-DPMNE leader, Nikola Gruevski at the urgent Congress of the party in Valandovo, where a new party leader is going to be elected.

“This is the only way the country can move forward, and put an end to political sanctuaries and political revenge. The big politicians are acting that way at the moment. Zaev and SDSM should also learn from the unfortunate events that took place on April 27th, and I say this with full sympathy for their pain and stress. The fight in Parliament was a huge mistake. Those people were driven by their emotions. We are now witnessing political loyalty of unprecedented proportions”, he said.

Gruevski thanked his closest associates and the people who he will always respect. He apologized to everyone in the party and to all citizens for all the unintentional mistakes he made but said he had worked at an enormous pace and that’s why mistakes were made.

“One part of my associates, and those people who have a lot, above all trust and opportunities, functions and great privileges and honors, in these past months, I do not recognize them. However, I managed, to keep my composure and calm, to keep it deep inside me, to break inside myself and to leave them tangled and fall in a grave they dug for another, or in the schemes, the court games, the hypocrisy, the deception, insincerity, greed, intrigue, and treachery that they make for another. And so it will be. Just like through the history of VMRO and Macedonia”, said Gruevski.

In the long speech he gave which lasted for an hour and 30 minutes, he returned to the past, he spoke about his difficult beginnings as the leader of VMRO-DPMNE and pointed out the party’s achievement while in power.

Gruevski told how Martin Protuger told him that his mandate had started and ended with a knife in his back.

“I corrected him, and I told him that he was wrong. I ended with not one knife, but with more, and not knives, but knives in my back,” he added.

He told the new president to remain a man because power and government make a man become bad, more agitated and less tolerant, and added that he will work in the next period to become a better person, father, husband, friend and associate.
