Greeks in the US request Kerry to block Macedonia in NATO

Greek Pan-Macedonian Association in USA sent a letter to US Secretary of State John Kerry, with which it appeals to him not make effort of accession of the Republic of Macedonia in NATO, reports “Greek Reporter.”

“The countries that aspire to join NATO must meet all the requirements and criteria for membership, and Macedonia is not one of those countries,” reads the letter of the Greek-American organization.

In the letter, signed by the President of the Pan-Macedonian Association Dimitris Cadzis, as well as by Secretary Thomas Rigas, the association lists its convictions concerning the history and identity of Macedonia, “expansionist aspirations” of Skopje and comment the statement of now already former US Ambassador to Macedonia Paul Wohlers, and the recent request of Congress for Macedonia’s accession to NATO at the next summit.

“A positive outcome of the name dispute is a key element to avoid the threat to the territorial integrity of Greece and to promote stability in the wider region,” reads the letter.

Association, recalling that Greece is a member of NATO and the EU, emphasized that the country with its “economic and political advantage” is “a leader of stability” in the Balkans.

In the letter, Pan-Macedonian Association also states that “it is obvious that the problem is more than the name of the northern neighbor of Greece” and that it is a matter of “creation of a state that is based on the ultra-nationalist ideas”.
