Nikos Kotzias, the Greek Minister for Foreign Affairs will be visiting Skopje on Thursday. According to unofficial sources in Greece, Kotzias is coming to Macedonia after being invited by the Macedonian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Nikola Poposki. He will also address the Ambassador’s Council in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in front of the Heads of diplomatic and consular offices in Macedonia.
Kotzias will have a tete-a-tete meeting with Poposki, after they met and talked last year in July on the sidelines at the NATO summit in Warsaw. The agenda of Kotzias’s meeting is expected to be the name dispute, bilateral relations between Macedonia and Greece, and Macedonia’s European perspective.
This will be Nikos Kotzias’s second visit to Skopje. The Greek Foreign Minister met with Nikola Poposki last June at the Macedonian Foreign Ministry, which was officially announced, and where the two ministers signed confidence-building measures between the two countries.
Last year, Foreign Minister Poposki visited Athens. The two ministers went on to have more tete-a-tete meetings from the sidelines of various international summits and are expected to meet again this autumn at the second regional summit between Greece, Albania, Bulgaria and Macedonia which was initiated by the Greek Foreign Ministry.
Just a day before Kotzias’s visit, tomorrow in Ohrid, at Gjorgi Ivanov’s School for Young Leaders, Ivanov will address the Mayor of Thessaloniki Yiannis Boutaris, who is expected to meet with the President.
The intensified political and diplomatic activity between Greek and Macedonian politicians in Greece is believed to be an attempt to improve the environment and to strengthen the trust between the two countries and aimed at creating an amicable atmosphere between the two countries.
