With over 91% of the votes ‘for’, voters in Macedonia have clearly voted for the European path and further EU and NATO perspective for their country. Even though, unfortunately, only 37% of the official number of voters took part in the referendum and did not achieve the official quorum, German Ambassador Thomas Gerberich said on the occasion of the National Unity Day.
“Whatever mathematics are used to calculate the number of voters, I am sure that the majority of the Macedonian population expressed their will to finally come out of the EU and NATO waiting room. It is now up to the government and the opposition to jointly implement the peoples’ will and by changing the constitution approve the path of their country in the direction of NATO and the EU and to show their political responsibility so that this time Macedonia is not blocked in the long run and for the country to be in Europe but in isolation, “says Gerberich.
He said in his speech that Germany is and remains to be the most important trade partner of the Macedonian economy with bilateral trade, which is expected to reach 4 billion euros at the end of the year.
