Former UBK chief Vladimir Atanasovski detained for 30 days

-

A judge in a preliminary hearing has ordered the 30 day detention of former Director of the Security and Counterintelligence Administration (UBK), Vladimir Atanasovski, after an evening hearing in the Criminal Court.

Atanasovski was arrested last night in front of the building opposite the Ministry of Interior.

He is charged with “criminal association for purposes of hostile activity” after several past hearings at which he was found to be the chief organizer of the violent incursion in Parliament, that took place on April 27, last year.

Atanasovski was interviewed by the Criminal Court, and the prosecution requested detention on all three grounds.

“I have asked for detention based on 3 grounds; flight risk, interfering with witnesses of which he is capable of and in light of his previous position, he is a threat to the repeating of further crimes,” said the head of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Corruption, Vilma Ruskovska.

Atanasovski was at the helm of the UBK, after Sasho Mijalkov resigned in September 2016, until June 2017, and is now a security adviser to president VMRO-DPMNE Hristijan Mickoski.
