DRM asks the Government to declare a state of emergency due to pollution

-

The Democratic Renewal of Macedonia today asked the Government to declare a state of emergency due to the pollution, and the Ministry of Environment to immediately find urgent measures for a solution to the problem – said Toni Ristov, spokesman for DRM (Democratic Renewal of Macedonia)at a press conference today , adding that their party offers concrete measures to reduce the pollution.

The party, said Ristov already have concrete measures for overcoming the problem. They firstly suggest an immediate declaration of emergency,a regime which should last until the end of winter, halting construction activities in urban areas, changing the traffic mode in cities by introducing compulsory “green” zones, which would be free of cars. DRM also proposes declaring pedestrian and bicycle zones in city centres and a ban on heavy vehicles in urban areas.

The party believes that the Government should provide financial support for the purchase of liquefied gas, complete combustion furnaces, solar panels for hot water and the insulation of homes, and controls of operations in industrial plants, particularly the fuel they use.
