Dimitrov and Kotzias expect “an initial framework” for solving the name dispute

At today’s meeting that took place in Thessaloniki, the ministers for foreign affairs of Macedonia and Greece, Nikola Dimitrov and Nikos Kotzias, have expressed their joint expectation that at the forthcoming meeting on 17 January, UN SG’s Personal Envoy Mr. Nimetz will table an initial framework that will be used to move the process essentially forward. states the press release that was adjusted by both of the ministries.

“Dimitrov and Kotzias discussed the methodology, the approach of the two parties and the framework related to the name issue, and agreed to take a more direct role in the talks to overcome the difference over the name.” states the press release.

The heads of both countries’ diplomacies also exchanged views with regard to confidence-building measures and other arrangements for the ” next meetings at a high political level between the two countries.”

Further, the meeting was held within the framework of the established dialogue and consultations between the two countries, directed towards strengthening the transparency and mutual trust.

The press release also states that Dimitrov and Kotzias, have had a good discussion and focused on the advancement of bilateral relations and cooperation in a wider context related to the ongoing Confidence Building Measures.
