Dačić: Serbia might change it’s position on recognizing Macedonia under its constitutional name

-

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić said that Serbia could change its stance on the application of Macedonia’s constitutional name, if Skopje changes its position and supports Kosovo’s entry into UNESCO, according to Serbian state television, RTS.

“If Macedonia really does vote on Kosovo’s accession into UNESCO, evethough it is aware of how it affects Serbia and the Serbian people, then I will propose to President (Aleksandar) Vučić in regards to the name under which we recognized Macedonia as well as about Kosovo in UNESCO, to take into account the position of the European Union”, Dačić said.

Dačić’s statement follows today’s announcement by the Macedonian government that it will follow the example of the EU when voting for Kosovo’s entry into UNESCO.

According to Dačić, today’s position of the Macedonian government is “directly opposite to all previous statements by Macedonian Prime Minister (Zoran) Zaev, that Macedonia will abstain in the vote.”

The Serbian Foreign Ministry withdrew its staff from the embassy in Skopje on Tuesday, because, as Dačić and Vučić said, there had been “intensified offensive intelligence activity against Serbia”.
